– Discuss parenting issues if the kid isn’t present.
– Always be flexible and also understanding when stuff don’t go as planned. Show your son or daughter, through your attitude, how to “go with the flow” whenever necessary.
– Avoid criticizing or complaining about your ex-partner in the kid’s presence, as this can usually cause the child to take sides, or perhaps be “two-faced” around each parent.
– Deliver your personal messages; don’t expect your son or daughter to do it.
– Understand that problems will occur and be prepared to face them calmly.
– Always ask yourself, “Just what is best for my child?”.
Despite the fact that a marriage may end, the responsibility of parenting does not. Peaceful co-parenting can make a lifetime of difference for your kid, by exhibiting that you love him enough to keep both parents involved in his life.

Household Entertainment Time while in the Vehicle
Apr 14th
We’re experiencing in a community where a lot more precious time is wasted in the vehicle. Long the days are gone in which the father went to work in the only auto the household had, while the mother remained in the home along with the children. In the current culture, most adults work outside the home. Quality of time is much more valuable as compared to the amount of precious time a parent or gaurdian is able to invest with their youngster. “Try to make every single second count!” should be the parent’s motto.
Do we really need vehicles which arrive equipped along with tvs and DVDs? Can not all of us actually put some “good quality” in to the lowering “volume” of time that we all are capable to invest with your children?
The following are a few ideas your kid (and yourself!) might take pleasure in trying the next time you all are proceeding from or to home:
Easy Arithmetic
Make sure to adjust this particular activity to the age group of your own youngster. Do not make it a task! Uncomplicated word problems are much more enjoyable for everybody included.
Permit Plate Activity
Discover exactly how many different license plates you and your kids can discover en route. If your own youngster is too young to read the plates, instead let him/her search for various coloured license plates or autos.
I Spy Game
This kind of game used to be known as “Person, place, or thing?” Get the person who is “it” think of a product. The additional competitors try to find out just what the object is, inquiring inquiries which may just be answered with “yes” or “no.
Color Number
Select a colour and get the kids respond products which can be that colour. Yellow: banana, sun, pencil, and so on. Be warned: This particular may get pretty silly!
The Greatest and the Worst
Let each household member discuss the worst thing that occurred to them that day, as well as the very best point. Preferably, there can end up being many great things that your own kid will possess in his/her listing of “Greatests.”
Sing Together with the Oldies
Ever question why numerous 20 year olds really like the Beatles? Odds are fairly great that they grew up singing together with the group that their adults discovered in the 60s.
So, instead of turning the tv on as you are in the car together with your own youngster, why do not you invest that exact same period obtaining enjoyment together with your kid? It might be that you will truly enjoy yourself! It’s probably safe to state that your child will probably!

Parenting Advice: Several Styles Of Parenting – Which One Is Most effective
Apr 13th
You can find different styles of parenting, and all of them has it’s very own style and attributes. Basically, you can find 4 styles of parenting: authoritarian, authoritative (sometimes called egalitarian), permissive, and uninvolved. Check out parentinghelp
The uninvolved parenting type is when the parents are simply not generally there to be mother and father to their children. So this type of parenting can be defined as “non existent”. For that reason, we will not necessarily talk about it right here, simply because it’s not an effective parenting style. Children with an uninvolved parent frequently have difficulty with feelings of rejection, lack of self-esteem, as well as trust issues.
Let us check out the other three parenting types – authoritarian, authoritative and permissive.
Authoritarian, authoritative as well as permissive represent the range of parenting styles, where authoritarian will be on one end, the permissive on another end, and authoritative in the middle.
The parenting style differ from each other in 2 factors – structure as well as responsiveness.
Structure connotes the limits and rules a kid needs to obey to, for that reason it is the main ingredient in authoritarian parenting.
Responsiveness is the parent’s awareness to a child’s voice. This presents the kid’s desires and needs. Responsiveness is actually therefore the most important element in permissive parenting.
Therefore, while authoritarian parenting is high on structure, it is very low on Responsiveness. For example, if a little one is late to come home, they will expect to be disciplined. When they forget to complete their assignments or perhaps some other tasks, they’ll bare the consequences. Their parent won’t listen to their needs and there won’t be any negotiation as for the limits as well as rules that this parent determines for his child.
With the permissive parent, things are quite contrary. There are very few rules and limits towards the child, and therefore, he or she have not much discipline. This may cause future problems, because these children don’t understand how to deal with rules and exactly how to connect between wrong doing as well as punishment.
The most effective parenting style is the authoritative style. It is a well-balanced style between the authoritarian and also the permissive models. By using this style, the child learns to obey rules and limitation imposed by his parent. However the child is also able to voice his or her thoughts and opinions, as well as negotiate. For instance, a child may ask for a new curfew hour, in the event that it’s justified. He can ask to bend the rules once, in the event that it is necessary. The authoritative families function together ,where the kid has duties and guidelines, but also has the right to have adults listen to their views and also needs.
Authoritative parenting is a balanced parenting model, using both high structure and high responsiveness. The parents are engaged as well as flexible, but they are still the parents. Structure–rules, limits and boundaries–is existing, but not firm.

Mar 31st
We are experiencing in a culture in which increasingly more time is wasted in the car. Long gone are the days in which the dad went to work within the only car the family owned, whereas the mother stayed in the house along with the youngsters. Within today’s society, most guardians work beyond the property. Quality of time is significantly more valuable compared to the quantity of precious time a parent is able to spend with their kid. “Help make each and every second matter!” ought to be the rule.

And, obviously, when the parent sings along, it multiplies the enjoyment for the kid!
I spy

This kind of auto game can be modified to the age group of your own child. “Let us all start looking for a puppy.” “Could anybody spot a lady wearing a hat?” The 1st individual able to spy the intended item can nominate the subsequent search item.
Rhyming Game
This specific one is actually pretty self-explanatory. Bear in mind to complement the trouble to your children’s age group. Commence the activity with an easy term like “cat” and take turns adding new words to the collection.

Your Car’s Carbon Footprint
Jan 31st
Carbon footprint refers to the amount of carbon that is emitted by any equipment or machinery that uses energy. It is the total amount of greenhouse gases that is given off by a given household or organization (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_footprint). Motor vehicles are one of the contributors of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and knowing how much a car contributes can help individuals become more environmentally conscious.
It is easy to calculate a car’s carbon emission online. This can be done by selecting the make or model of the car and the number of miles the car has covered. Some websites will include the frequency of using the car as a factor to calculate the amount of carbon it produces every day.
A low carbon footprint for a car is 100g per kilometer, while a very high carbon emission for a vehicle is 200g per kilometer. The calculation considers the amount of carbon emission per year, such that if a car makes about 10,000 miles in a year at a carbon emission of 160g per kilometer which is a high polluting vehicle, the amount of carbon dioxide produced in the year would be 2.6 tons, which is massive.
It has been proved that in the United States, carbon dioxide emissions come mainly from automobiles such as vans, jeeps, pickup trucks and other cars (www.epa.gov). It has also been confirmed that vehicles with the lowest mileage per tank are the highest carbon dioxide emitters. This is because they will require more gas than regular and low emission vehicles, which means that the carbon dioxide that they produce is much higher than regular vehicles.
Considering that the US is one of the highest fuel consumers with up to 20 million barrels of oil per day as of the year 2000, the emissions of carbon dioxide from the burning of the oil is a cause for concern. There have been many initiatives undertaken to educate individuals on how to cut down the CO2 emissions by using their vehicles less and less.
One highly publicized means of cutting down the pollution is by purchasing hybrid vehicles. These types of cars have low carbon emissions, some running on other sources of energy apart from gas. This is a good method of showing responsibility for the environment, but the main problem is that the hybrid cars are out of purchasing reach for a majority of people.
Another option is to use public transportation rather than driving. This method would not only decrease the carbon dioxide emissions but would also create more jobs for bus and train operators, as well as clear up the roads from traffic snarl-ups which only go to create more greenhouse gases that are harmful to the atmosphere.
Fuel efficiency can be increased significantly if car owners would service their vehicles often enough. Keeping the engine of your vehicle in excellent running shape will give you more mileage from a tank of gas, causing drivers to spend much less on fuel and give off less carbon dioxide.
Drive-through services should also be avoided because it translates to excessive burning of fuel while waiting in line for service. It would conserve gas uses if individuals chose to walk to restaurants and fast food joints locally and planning their eating habits well so that they do not get hungry at odd hours.

Sex Education
Jan 28th
Sex education is broad term that encompasses a wide range of topics that relate to human sexual anatomy, sexual intercourse, sexual reproduction, reproductive health, reproductive rights, contraception, and other facets of human sexual behavior. Sex education can be a part of school programs but it can also be informally taught by parents or guardians or through various public health campaigns.
Sex education may also pertain to ‘sexuality education,’ which means that it also covers all perspectives about human sexuality. As such, it would integrate discussions about reproduction, family planning, and all the elements of one’s sexuality. Human sexuality in itself is a scopic term which takes into account body image; sexual orientation; morals and values; communication and decision making; dating and relationships. Also included are more sensitive topics such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and birth control methods.
As aforementioned sex education can be taught informally, such as discussing the matter with parents or friends. It can also be imparted by religious leaders, advocate groups, government campaigns or through mass media. The subject can also be effectively delivered through sex self-help authors, newspaper and magazine articles, or through a number of sex education websites.
Sex education from the onset of its conception to date has remained a sensitive and controversial issue in several nations. There are schools that incorporate sex education as a full course as part of the curriculum, particularly in junior high school or high school. In other instances, it just forms part of a broader topic such as biology, health and fitness or physical education. There are schools with no sex education in their curriculum, since there has been much debate as to the age at which students ought to be exposed to such sensitive topics, the amount of information that should be taught, and topics dealing with human sexual behavior.
Whenever sex education is subjected to debates, the primary argument is whether discussing sexuality is beneficial or detrimental among teenagers. Among the points of contention are the use of birth control, teenage pregnancy, abortion and the transmission of diseases. It has been revealed that countries with conservative outlook towards sex education tend to have a higher incidence of teenage pregnancy and STIs.
Other pressing issues have come to the fore and have fueled a new sense of urgency to the topic of sex education. Perhaps the most glaring example is the unprecedented spread of the AIDS virus. In Africa for instance, where AIDS has reached pandemic proportions, sex education is viewed by experts as a key component in developing an effective public health strategy.
The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) reported that 93% of adults who took part in their survey professed support for sex education in high school and 84% expressed support to have sex education introduced in junior high school. Moreover, 88% of parents of junior high school students and 80% of parents of high school students believe that formal sex education would make it easier for them to candidly talk to their teenagers about sex.
How to Handle Teen Behavior Problems
High School and it’s Variables
Jan 27th
It is amazing how fast things can change; how pure innocence can turn to arrogance and adventuresome. It seems up until your first year in high school, you feel safe from anything. You are preoccupied with life as how you knew it from the start, when in school you’re intrigued to hear rumors in junior high, they’re usually about who likes who, and who broke up with who. It just seems so naive. But when you stepped into high school, it becomes an entirely different ballgame. Somehow you seem to have been stripped of all your innocence. Suddenly you become vulnerable to the evils that you knew nothing about before. It seems the only thing people talk about is either sex or drug use. We all know of so many personalities who have so much potential to do great things in life, but threw it all away when they started to use drugs.
This is the daunting scenario that we have today. We are aware of it, the government is aware of it, law enforcers are aware of it but still the nagging problem persists and threatens the fragile future of our youth today. Numbers don’t lie. Nearly half of all high school seniors in America have experimented with illegal drugs and about three quarters have tried alcohol. A study conducted on the drug use prevalence among high school seniors in the US revealed the following: 41.8% have tried marijuana and at least 5% uses it everyday; 7.8% have used cocaine; 1.5% have tried heroin; 72.2% have used alcohol and 3.1% take alcohol daily; 6.5% have tried ecstasy; 8.4% have tried using hallucinogens (LSD, Magic Mushrooms, Peyote); and at least 15.4% have reported having used prescription drugs (Vicodin, OxyContin etc.) to get high. These are alarming statistics but equally disturbing is how easily high school students can get hold of these prohibited drugs. The dilemma that we have today is worse than what our parents had to deal with; and at the rate things are going it is quite likely that by the time you have kids, the situation will be ten times worse than what it is today.
The problem should be addressed now with more stringent measures and from different fronts. It should be a collective and conscious effort from the government, school administrations and more importantly the parents. Parents should be educated about the dangers facing their teens today because they are for real and are likely to stay if nothing is done to stem the problem. The government should make laws with much more teeth in them so as to deter drug dealers and manufacturers who are selling these substances like pancakes. Schools must have more effective screening and monitoring systems to keep drugs away from their vicinity and thus give their students a good shot for a productive college life. Illicit drugs seem to fall in and out of favor with experimental youths. But one thing is constant, more and more teens are experimenting with it. The perils are great and more threatening than ever, but studies consistently show that teens whose parents talk to them about drugs are at a much lower risk to experiment.
Talk to Your Children
Jan 27th
If we can only get rid of memories of traumatic events maybe it can diminish distress especially among our children and young adults. Such is not the case because we are not programmed to do so. Remembering what transpired on 9/11 can be a lot more difficult and painful especially among those who lost a loved one or for those who were directly impacted by that tragic day when terrorists struck fear and anxiety into the hearts of people from all corners of the globe. Moreover, media coverage commemorating the events in a detailed manner may heighten distress or indifference among our children.
So the question is, how can parents explain something so gruesome and traumatic to their children? Parents can’t shield their children from acquiring information about what is so significant about 9/11. It is a thing of the past but it definitely left an indelible mark in history and on the eight anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, as publication of news and photos of that tragic day find their way to our newspapers, television screens and the Internet, parents are dumbfounded about the manner on how they can explain to their children this hard and complex subject.
There are certain tips which may help all concerned parents on this particular issue. The first thing to do is to try to relax while discussing the topic. You have to consider the fact that talking about violent acts won’t increase your children’s fear any more than harbor anxiety about the unknown. Try to determine and feel what your child already knows about the event so you can somehow gauge the impact of the information you want to discuss thereby establishing the parameters of the subsequent conversation.
Try to be as transparent and honest as possible although you can opt to refrain from providing detailed information. Children are generally smart, they can sense when they are being lied to or when you’re withdrawing something from them. It’s not appropriate to eliminate your children’s fear but a thorough explanation should be given to assure them somehow that there is nothing to be afraid of as government authorities are trying to find ways to protect the nation’s citizenry against another horrible event. Just make sure that your children are interested about the flow of the conversation, otherwise it’s better to drop the topic. Your children may not yet want or need to discuss the event at this particular period but they will certainly bring it out sooner or later.
Parents ought to be very careful when discussing traumatic events to their children and young adults especially those with acts of terrorism such as 9/11 because you are not certain how they will interpret and react on such sensitive subject matters.
